Mrs. Hoshaw's Pre-K
May 22, 2017
Wow! The school year has sped by! We will be going to J.C. Park on our last day of Pre-K on Tuesday, May 23. We will leave school at 10:20. Parents are welcome to meet us at the park. If you would like to eat with your child, please bring your own sack lunch. We will be getting McDonald’s food for the children for lunch. One of our moms is planning to bring some treats to share. If you would also like to bring treats, you are welcome to do so.
As the school year winds down, I am planning to send a summer playdate list home so that people can keep in touch. I have put a list on the sign-in sheets so that you can write in your most current information, then we will make copies and distribute that sheet. Please sign up as soon as possible so that we can get the copies made.
As we reflect upon this school year, Ms. Joy and I feel truly blessed to have worked with such wonderful children and families. We have enjoyed your children, and it has been a privilege to have them in our classroom. We also wish Mrs. Mechlin well on her retirement. She will be missed!

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to our circus last week. Whether it was your time, money, or supplies, we appreciate it. I hope that the children enjoyed putting on the circus!
We are beginning our "summer fun" theme this week. We will look at insects, do some planting, and maybe a cooking activity, too.

This week, we are going to introduce our circus unit. The children will be looking at various jobs, and deciding what parts they would like in our circus. Please don’t worry about a costume (unless your child already has a costume that he/she wants to wear), as the school has costumes on hand. In addition, we will continue to look at the spring changes that are happening in our world, and will also take the time to remember the many blessings that God has given us. The children will be working to finish up the alphabet in their journals, and will also be writing numbers in their journals.
As we prepare for the school circus, we could use some volunteers for circus day, especially for painting faces. We could also use help with getting popcorn and cotton candy ready. The circus will be May 11 at 10:00 for the morning class and 2:00 for the afternoon class. Please let us know if you can help. Thank you in advance!
Thursday, May 4 is National Day of Prayer. You are invited to join us at 11:00 by the flag pole for prayer time.
I will be sending home the final snack list of the year soon. If your child would like to celebrate a “pretend birthday” for a summer birthday, please let us know.
Our last day of preschool is Thursday, May 23. We are going to J.C. Park for a picnic for our last day. We will leave around 10:20. Both of my classes (along with Grandma Jane's class) will be going on this field trip.
We're looking forward to a wonderful week!

We explore our farm unit this week. In conjunction with this unit, we will work on some number and math concepts. The children will finish with the letter V, then work on the letter W in their journals.
Our party will be Thursday, April 13. Parents are welcome to join us. The A.M. party is at 10:00, and the P.M. party is at 2:00. I plan to post a sign-up sheet for the Easter party by tomorrow. It will be posted on the window next to my classroom.
I am enjoying meeting with you at parent/teacher conferences. Our school has been blessed with wonderful children and families.

This week, we will continue with our space unit. We will also talk about the trinity, and will use a shamrock as a visual. The children will be writing the letters T and U in their journals.
Spring Break is March 13-17. There will be no preschool, but day care will be provided. If your child will be going to Faith Lutheran, enrollment is going on now. Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis, so you will want to enroll soon. If you have questions, please let me know.
Please continue to keep the school in your prayers.
God's blessings to you!

Our focus this week will be cars, buses, and trucks. We will be working on the letter Q in journals. We will also be learning about parables that Jesus told. During class time, the children will act out some Bible stories.
I am posting a sign-up for our Valentine’s Day party next Tuesday. The A.M. party will begin around 10:00, and the P.M. party will begin around 2:00; you are welcome to join us. We would like for each child to bring in something to pass out to classmates at the party. These should not be addressed to anyone, but they should be signed by your child (this is good name-writing practice).
We are still giving children the opportunity to earn the prize box by naming the letters A-G (we are testing upper and lower case, and are mixing up the letters). We will continue to give chances until children are successful. We will move on to H-M for the children who have already named A-G.
I am currently testing children during class. I am assessing kindergarten readiness. I plan to do Parent/Teacher conferences soon after spring break. If you would like to schedule an appointment sooner, let me know and I will make arrangements.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

We will be beginning our "Boats & Water" unit this week. "Boats & Water" is a favorite unit of mine, as there are many Bible stories involving water. In addition to learning Bible stories, our activities will include exploration of the properties of water, and reading the story Swimmy. Our water unit allows us to do many science activities - we will be testing items to see which sink or float, looking at absorption, and talking about the forms of water. We will also talk about Groundhog Day, and will work on the letter P.
If your child is enrolled full time, please check to see if he/she still has spare clothes at school. Also, please make sure your child's spare clothes are appropriate for winter.
Our Valentine's Day parties will be Tuesday, February 14. I will be posting a sign-up sheet for our parties. The A.M. party will be at 10:00, and the P.M. party will be at 2:00. Parents are welcome to join us. Children will be asked to bring a valentine or small treat to hand out to classmates. Children should sign their names, but we prefer that they are not addressed to specific classmates. There are 20 children in the morning class, and 21 in the afternoon.
We are still focusing on learning alphabet letters in class. Children who can recognize A-G (when they are not in alphabetical order) will be able to choose an item from the prize box. We have recently received some prize box donations, but could use a few more if you happen to have small toys such as Happy Meal toys.
Let us know if you have any questions.

Our focus will be on winter weather this week. We will observe ice changing from a solid to a liquid as it melts. The children will be using their imagination to create snow creatures, and will take part in a variety of other learning centers. We will be working on the letter N.
Application books are now available for the 2017-2018 school year. Enrollment is first come, first serve, so you are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
Just a friendly reminder - if your child drinks milk at lunch, the second semester milk fee of $25 is due if you have not already paid. Money can be given to your classroom teacher or added to your tuition payment. Thank you!
Occasionally, someone asks if we are in need of supplies for our classroom. Right now, we are in need of napkins, washable markers, and disinfecting wipes (Clorox Wipes, for example). We appreciate any donations!
Next week is Lutheran Schools Week. To kick off the week, our Pre-K children are scheduled to sing in our church service on Sunday, January 29. Church starts at 10:15. We hope to see everyone there. We will be singing “I am Jesus’ Little Lamb,” “If I Were a Butterfly,” and “In Right, Out Right Happy All the Time.” It would be great if your child would practice singing these songs at home this week.
God's blessings to you!
