Hawks Co-op Basketball Team with An Exciting Week
By Coach Kevin Rhodes
As many know, this is the first season of a co-op basketball program between Faith Lutheran School and Mary Immaculate Parish School for 4th-6th grades. Four boys and five girls from Faith Lutheran joined the team this year. This past week was an exciting week for the Hawks boys and girls basketball teams. Both teams came up with their first wins of the season. On Tuesday, the boys came from ten points down to win by one point over the Kirksville Area Homeschool team, 35-34. The week’s excitement would continue for the boys on Thursday when they held off the surging Kirksville Area Homeschool team in a rescheduled game. Homeschool came from ten down this time to go ahead by one with 16 seconds in the game. The Hawks ran one final play for a winning layup in the final seconds sealing the victory 36-35. The night ended with exciting action from the girls’ team as Schuyler County tied the game 14-14 in the final minutes. With 11 seconds left in the game, the lady Hawks went to the free throw line and sank both free throws holding off the Rams for a 16-14 victory and the lady Hawks’ first win of the season. Both teams will finish up their season with tournaments in Salisbury and Moberly. Keep the kids and coaches in your prayers as they meet new friends, learn new things and face exciting challenges. Pray that they find ways to be Christ-like examples even on a basketball court. Go Hawks!
